By the time Vesper jumped in Kiara was a silent, quivering ball. Her sapphire eyes filled with terror and pain. Vesper's voice seemed so far away. It wasn't until Vesper pushed the dog off of her that Kiara even registered what was happening. Kiara continued to lay in the snow for a minute more as the two canines fought. She couldn't bear to move. The wounds were burning hot, but had allowed the cold to seep into her body. Pain and fear kept her in place while the cold and blood loss zapped her strength.
Finally the snow wolf managed to rise. Blood pooled from her neck, shoulder, and stomach as pain shot through her small form. Slowly, Kiara began to crawl away. Each step, each breath brought about a new wave of pain. The world beneath her feet wavered and the snow wolf stumbled into the snow. She hadn't managed to make it farther than a meter. Kiara wilted again into a red, whimpering pile.
