Behind her, the sound of fighting increased in volume. Vesper and Amy were clashing together like two opposing storms. Kiara twisted her head a little and watched as Amy abandoned her dreaded knife for an even longer short sword. Kiara yelped, the gleaming metal frightened her. She was scared not only for herself but for the fate of her friend. "Vesper, run!" Kiara cried, her voice rising in pitch.
The arctic wolf knew she would be useless in the fight. She had a lot of experience hunting, but next to no experience fighting. Not to mention neither body nor her mind were up to fighting the yellow dog. Kiara wanted to curse herself for her cowardice, but it was the only thing she could do. Using all of her strength, the snow wolf stood. Clumsy steps brought her farther and farther away from the battle. If she could just get away, then Vesper might not feel the need to stick around and fight. Vesper could run away too.
The rate at which blood streamed from her wounds slowed a little. With each agonizing step, the droplets stained the snow and marked her route of escape. It took all of the arctic wolf's will power to continue one, to take a step. The sounds of battle were beginning to fade, but when Kiara looked around she could still see Vesper and Amy.
