Mordecai is near the borders, but not too close to cause alarm. :] Backdate it to November 23? Ohlookythere, a Border Tree!

The days got colder. The nights grew longer. And Mordecai absolutely loved it.

At first, his impression was that he would give hate to the rumored bitter winds and sweeping gales of the north. After being born and raise to live off of the heat, he did find the coming months uncomfortable. But he did not predict the snow. Oh, the snow! How he loved it!

The south, too warm to hold such luxuries besides on rare occasions, had lied to the boy what its sister direction held. He had awakened the day, like any other. But, something was different, and sensed some change in things before he stepped outside of his den. To his pleasant surprise, everything was covered in a white plush that crunched under his paws. At first, he was fearful—what has come to this world, what had fallen from the sky?!—like a puppy experiencing his first thunderstorm. Soon enough, he was frolicking in the downy flakes, a youngster dancing in the rain.

The boy wanted to see how his surroundings had change even further, and went southeast from the Dampwoods in the early morning. By late afternoon, he was still taking a gander at the winter beauty, trotting at an impatient pace to get more eyefuls of the scene. He paused all a sudden for a moment and an idea came upon him. His paws had gotten rather chilled by the snow, all four of them. But, what if he had only two paws to worry about?

After wiggling out of his bandanna and laid it carefully on the ground, he focused on the familiar pull inside of him, and began the transformation. He rarely visited this form, but he enjoyed the sparse times he did. As paws became hands and fur into hair, he stood upright on his hind legs and brushed his body to clear any snow that clung to them. He grabbed the bandanna again, now tying the cloth around his head so that his curly locks and ringlets were out of his green eyes. He then continued, without a change in his demeanor, as his half skipped half walked onward on his path.

It was sooner than later that he came upon another pack’s territory—the first was the knightly clan, though he avoided that with much care. These borders he had never seen before, but what stopped him was not the scent markers. From afar, he saw a tree, again, not what made him pause. What was on the tree—splashes of unusual color, figures of wood hanging in the branches, and canvases sporting various shapes—surprised him. The boy stood there for a moment, just staring and taking in as much of the colorful tree as he could. This was a site that Mordecai had never seen before.
