Lol, Mordy is so intimidated by someone so much smaller than him. xD

Word Count → 506

The whole tree was a grand thing to look at. He would have probably kept looking at the splendid sight, if not he scented on of the pack’s wolves approaching. Mordecai felt his ears flip down automatically, showing that he was submissive to whoever was coming near. But, as he caught sight of who it was, he realized that she was not looking at him, but at the tree as well. He could not blame him for not taking notice of him yet; perhaps she had seen this tree millions of times, but there was always something that he did not see that he had yet to lay eyes on, or at least that was the case for him. He took a glance at what she was staring at, seeing a window into a place that told of colorful spring days while the world around it was cold and drab. The boy now felt himself missing the warmer months, but wishing would not bring them around faster.

Before him, the girl began to write with some purple stuff—who knows what it was—in the snow. He watched her use a stick with a bristly bottom in order to smooth the liquid onto the ground. Why isn’t she using her hands? he inquired to himself, but he did not ask aloud, at least not yet. Once she was done, the letters were facing him at an awkward angle, but he was smart enough to come to a conclusion that it matched the name he saw on the tree a couple of times: Cercatori d’Arte. Maybe that was what the place was called? It looked like a pretty name, though he was unsure how to pronounce the foreign words.

Mordecai was too busy admiring the words to notice that the girl was backing up, checking over her work like he was. It was not until she spoke did he look up, and got a good look at her face. He was pulled up short; she was quite beautiful, like the flowers on the painting she was looking at moments before. But, the expression she had muddled her pretty features, also giving the boy the impression that he was in trouble, though her words did not seem to intend hostility. Like any other awkward teen, he stared down at his feet for a moment, and then looked back up at the girl once he found words to speak.

“I’m Mordecai. Mordecai de Fonte. I was just passing by, and I saw this remarkable tree, and I could not help but stop and look at it.” As he spoke, he took another chance to look away from the hard-faced wolf to gaze at the decorated tree once more, but returned his green eyes back to her blues eventually. He was taught with manners, and manners were to look at the person you were talking to. He then remembered the liquid stuff she wrote with, and could not help but ask, “Hey, what’s the purple stuff? It looks pretty neat.”
