No speck of dust had been left in Gampo Abbey. The only rooms Pripyat had not entered were the small lodging rooms occupied by others, of which there were few as only the Herald members were permitted to live full time at the Abbey. The spiritual center and temple had been given the most care, the man going slowly over each statue in the temple with careful detail. Some of the faces he did not recognize, though the statues of the Buddha were most prevalent. And though the man was careful not to act disrespectful in front of the golden eyes of any of the gods, deities or idols he did not subscribe to any of them either. Pripyat knew that there was something that directed the forces of life and death, but he doubted that any of these golden faces were the mastermind behind the universe.
One finished in the temple he moved onto the spiritual center, sweeping the floors, rearranging the store of books they kept, fluffing the cushions piled in the corner awaiting kneeling knees that rarely came. Like most days the halls of the Abbey were silent, though they should have been even if many feet found their way inside. Loud noises were frowned upon, but it was easy to keep to such standards when few came to meditate or pray. Pripyat did not mind though, whether they came or not those in the Herald class kept on, welcoming the face that did make an occasional appearance.
As Eika he did not need to assign himself to such tasks, but with so many empty ranks in the Herald class he couldn't help himself. The other classes were important. Envoy to protect them, Element to give them growth and Creationist to maintain them. What all did that matter if there was no meaning behind it? Pripyat Soul knew there was meaning in all this, in being born and living and eventually in dying also, though he was not quite sure what that meaning was. Yet it was he and the others who would find it, for themselves and for the others. If only they came looking.
