Much had happened in the pack over the last year, and as the new year had dawned on the canines of Anathema Naniko had taken some time to mull the whole thing over in her head. She had made many decisions that had affected the pack in both good and bad ways; some of her choices had been rather unpopular, like choosing Alaki for a leader…but it now seemed that she’d made the right choice regardless of some pack members’ reaction to it. Esmeralda hadn’t seemed very happy and had in fact left the pack due to it, it’d seem; Naniko hadn’t seen her ever again since that pack meeting. Alaki was a good sub-leader, she thought…not very level headed and incredibly quick to anger, but those were things that were balanced out by Naniko’s cool demeanor and calm appearance when faced with tough decisions. She was good under pressure. Naniko thought that she had proven this with the incident involving the dog Amy that had approached the pack's borders. They'd ended up sending her away and gaining objects without even having to trade for them, a victory by her standards. She didn't care how they got things as long as they got them, in most cases.

The male had done a lot for Anathema even before she had promoted him to Rakeeb. He had always been good about offering her ideas and suggestions to improve their way of life, and Naniko appreciated that greatly. She liked hearing feedback from members and enjoyed getting new and different perspectives on things. Not only were his ideas useful, they were actually feasible and many of them had been implemented. Without him, the pack would be much less secure and they would not have their crows or the mill that they were converting into training grounds for the warriors. She hoped to frequent the grounds herself when she got more time; Naniko knew that she was not very skilled in the ways of the warrior and she felt that it would be necessary for her to improve those skills so that she could be seen as a more effective leader. After all; if she were ever caught alone out on the borders, who knew what would happen. She did have her poison daggers…but those were mainly to be used as a last resort. She didn’t have much of the poison remaining, having only milked the one snake that she had come across. A little bit was enough, but she still wanted to use it sparingly.

She sat on the springy bed inside of her spacious den, looking about at all of the various artifacts on her walls. She had many different human objects…utensils, two full sets of human kitchen knives, a few plates and bowls that had made it through the pillaging and rioting. Because, when she thought about it…who would want to steal bowls or plates? They seemed to be the most simple of human items, the ones used for eating, and she’d found broken pieces of them in many homes and apartment buildings that she’d gone into. The ones that she collected were an odd shape: eight sided plates that were black in coloration, the bowls matching them. She wanted to find something to give to Alaki as a gift for his loyalty…but didn’t know what the male would find interesting. She had enough human objects stockpiled here to give one to each member of the pack if she wanted…and in fact, she was running out of space. Maybe he would appreciate the knife set, which he could use to prepare the pelts of animals that he caught. It was winter, after all, and one needed all the pelts that they could find.

She stood up, not stirring the pups on her bed from their slumber. This was for the best; she did not want the children following her around everywhere that she went like they normally did, especially not today. Today she wanted to thank Alaki for what he had done and offer him a formal gift in appreciation, something that she did not normally do. The children only normally saw her being terrible and fearsome toward others, and she wanted to keep that image in their heads for when they chose to do their naughty pranks and tricks. She’d be there at home, waiting to give them the punishments that they had earned. The boys were getting into bigger and bigger trouble, especially recently, and she would not reward that. Soon they would need to move out into dens of their own and take care of themselves…and she worried that neither of the more darkly colored pups were ready for that responsibility. They were too reliant on their mother at this point in time, too reliant upon the fact that someone would always be there to save them from every fight that they got into and bit of danger that they were put in.

Naniko picked up the set of knives from the floor, exiting her den and padding out into the hall. Alaki’s den wasn’t far. She walked slowly, yawning a bit as she went. She’d had a dream that had included the symbol of Anathema a few nights prior, and it stuck in her mind as she padded along. She had a necklace that looked somewhat like the symbol that Caprica had made for her out of rings of metal…but she wished that she could represent her love of the pack in a different way. Maybe she could use dye of some sort to put the pattern onto her white pelt. Naniko was still thinking about this as she reached the outside of Alaki’s den. She didn’t want to bother him if he didn’t want company, and called quietly from out in the hall. ”Anyone home?” Naniko didn't like to force her presence on anyone or take advantage of the fact that she was the leader - if he didn't want to visit then that was fine by her and she would find something else to do with her time.
