Budding Strangeness

The quietest of the Denahlii four Honrin could often be found simply dozing in the square of sunlight that streamed in to the nursery through the window when he was not exploring and looking for interesting things or listening to the voices and sounds that he heard inside of his head. His dreams were strange fantastical visions full of color and brightness and loud noises that made him twitch and wriggle in his sleep. The sounds of his sister calling him pulled him from this fantasy world in his mind and he sat up with a quiet yawn. Being the most mentally advanced of his siblings did not meant he disliked spending time with them, quite the opposite in fact, he thoroughly enjoyed watching them as they learned and explored the world around them, sometimes even joining in with their eagerness when they found something that was new to both him and them.

He loved all three of his sisters extraordinarily equally but out of the three, Pandora was his nearest companion followed closely by Dalgina. Keldava was his furthest away but strangely neither of them seemed to mind this, their relationship as loving as it was, was not one made for particular closeness. Yes he would play with her and toddle about with her, defend her from the things that scared her like the nasty mouse he had chased away for her but they were content with their somewhat distant views. It made them very agreeable as brother and sister. Jace and Temo were perhaps lucky to have produced such mostly mellow children, they didn't often scrap or fight for dominance much although it was painfully clear that Honrin was the leader of the group unless the girls were off on their own causing mischief then either Dalgina or Keldava were in charge, never Pandora, his submissive oldest sister was one to sit back and watch others rather than charge in head first, it was one of the things he admired most about her.

The ivory boy pulled himself to his feet in time to see his black as night sister step into the room. He held no resentment towards her that she be the one to resemble their father, that was the way she had come along and it was the way she would stay.

"I'm coming!" His speech was very advanced and the child never spoke a world out loud until he was sure he could say it right, it was a peculiar quirk of his, one of many. He trotted after her, ivory tail wagging in the air and amber eyes shining with his excitement. His mind ticked over what it was she wanted to show him as he caught up to her and bumped into her side gently. He was already the largest of them all even though they were still within very similar heights. But he was a boy, boys were supposed to be bigger so they could look after the girls better.
