This is a rambly mess. Ignore most of it. Sosu: 546

Ezra was used to being alone at this point. The man had suffered internally for weeks while Ever disappeared and his son went hungry most nights. The pain that had latched onto his heart seemed as if it would never go away; he couldn't really remember what it was like to be happy and without grief sitting on his chest day in and day out. However, since moving to his peculiar place that Barrett called home, he found Those aches to be fewer and less often. He had a steady supply of food because the game here was plentiful, Eli was safe, and the man had company whenever he wanted. For now, the secui couldn't imagine anything better. He was incredibly grateful to Barry for taking him in on such short notice.

The man had stayed to himself most days since moving in. He wanted to stay out of the way of the busy helpers, Axle and Grit, who were more focused on their chores than shooting the shit. Ezra had set up his room and even started drying flowers that were in the gardens for decoration. He knew they were for the butterflies, but since they were very much dead he figured Barry wouldn't mind a few of them disappearing. Ezra had memorized the layout of the compound being sure that Barry knew that HE knew where he was allowed and where he wasn't. Ezra would do his best to stay out of his companions hair; he was actually more worried about Eli, who was more than curious about everything in this place. Was it a good place to raise a child, with marijuana, opium, and frequent drug deals all over the place? Probably not, but he was young enough that the drugs hadn't corrupted him yet. No one here was interested in making Eli cognizant of what actually went on  when Ezra put his boy to bed, either.

The hybrid had taken Eli scouting earlier, for some reason the boy wanted to see if any ducks were nearby that they could hunt. Ezra had played along, mostly because he wanted his boy distracted and more than anything didn't have he heart to tell his son that the sucks probably fled south for winter. Either way, the two husky hybrids had spent the day together giggling, laughing, and sprinting.

The duo had come back exhausted. Night had fallen on their return but it was still relatively early. Eli was tired and had even fallen asleep on their way back. The boy lay spread-eagled on his father's back for the last quarter of the trip. Ezra reached the compound quietly, pulled Eli off his back, held the boys puppy fat in his jaws as he led the child up the stairs of the distillery and into bed. He gave his chocolate son a lick on the cheek goodnight. He was out like a light.

That distinctive smell came wafting through Ezra's nose; the man sniffed excitedly, following the trail of smoke. Of course, it let to Barry. Ezra grinned, especially when he saw the blunt. "Expecting company?" he asked his friend as he emerged from the darkness. Without waiting for a response the man sat down beside his friend, fluffy tail curling around his mammoth legs.
