She figured maybe she was in the wrong place. This was a country kind of town; she doubted any of the humans wore what she was looking for. Any of it. They seemed to be poor by the way the houses looked, even in their destroyed forms. They didn’t have the concrete roofs the ones in and around Halifax had. The fences surrounding the houses seemed to have decayed, but they didn’t look like they had much potential anyway. There were a few barns behind the houses that had collapsed, probably once housing a few horses. She hoped the horses escaped long ago, before it collapsed.
Axelle lifted her face from her paws as she scented another nearby. A faint clanking of some type of wood echoed around her, and bird wings flapping followed it. She looked around herself, not really sure if it was just something messing with her or was there really someone else here. She rose from the stairs and stepped down the few that were left. Looking up and down the street, she didn’t see anyone or anything that could be making the noises. She walked toward the corner, and looked down that way and sure enough found something.
She saw a woman with some type of walking stick, and the bird with the flapping wings was flying in and out of houses, staying close to its owner. Axelle stayed where she was because the pair was walking towards her. She watched the two, and realized that the woman must have been blind because she relied greatly on the stick to tell her what was in front of her, and the bird seemed to play a part in her ‘seeing’ too.
The two edged closer, and Axelle felt the need to call out to the unseeing female, ”Hey!” It was a friendly calling; after all, she wasn’t into confrontation if it wasn’t necessary. And right now, it wasn’t. Maybe the female knew more about this town than she did, and maybe she could point her in a better direction toward the items she was searching for. The doubt of it hung like darkness in the back of her mind, but hope floated above it.
