We Meet Again

Levent was truly capable of horrible things. He could stoop to any level—theft, murder, betrayal—without remorse. However, even the worst of his actions would carry more than a hint of desperation behind them. He was perhaps not evil in the true sense of the word; those evil enough to destroy others for no means other than enjoyment were in a tier above him. He was merely a coward, a coward willing to make a pact with the worst of demons to attain his goal, to hide from the worst fear of his low and pathetic life.

If the god had commanded it, he may have torn his claws through the soft belly of the wolf and dragged out the entrails as an offer of sacrifice. But this random violence was something that startled him in his previously contented mind, jerked him out of the gentle daydreams that paraded through his thoughts on lazy days.

Washed-out blue eyes flickered to the woman’s brown ones, and though they were demanding, they sought comfort as well. When the blonde woman explained the wolf’s motives, his tensed posture loosened slightly, even though her tone was more detached than most canines’ would be when discussing a fresh suicide.

Religion he could understand. And so he nodded dumbly to everything she said, letting the oddly familiar sound of her voice carry him out of his shock. “Şanssız kimse,” he murmured, glancing once more at the corpse before walking toward the woman. With that action, and with eyes set once more upon hers with a small smile forming on his lips, he dismissed his shock and the blood washed away by the stream.

“Sizi tekrar görmek çok güzel,” Levent breathed, leaning forward and hoping to give her a kiss on the cheek in greeting. It was a difficult feat with the cat in his arms, but Wilson luckily remained completely still and without protest. Grinning, he repeated his words in English. “Nice to see you again. It looks like you found your dreamland, yeah?”
