A long-lost friend

WC: 617. Dating it Feb 4 for plot reasons. :3

Hanna walked along the beach, in her Lupus form for easier travel through the snow. She had been a member of Anathema for not that long a time, and she had met few of her pack mates, but she had picked up a scent in the caves that for some reason seemed too familiar. She was not sure why; the scent was not of family, nor of any person she could recall meeting. It did not carry the smell of any of the other packs, so if she had met this person in another set of company, it would not be obvious now; they had been in Anathema long enough that the old place's mark would no longer cling to their fur.

Still, there was something that drew her onward. She tracked the male -- for she was nearly sure the wolf she tracked was masculine -- mostly eastward, till his trail veered south into Life's Aquatic. She slowed as she neared the place where he might be. She had not yet seen this place, and it was far different from anything she had recently seen. Tide pools were everywhere, like little pits in the ground. No snow littered the otherwise pristine sands, which made her movement much freer than before. She wound around the pools, occasionally peeking in to them to see the little fishes within that would dart around in their little cages as her shadow passed across the water.

Finally she pulled her head from the clouds, or from the water, and continued following the scent she had been tracking before. The wolf in question was close, now, and the woman felt almost nervous. What if he did not recognize her? What if - such a girlish thought - he laughed at her when she told him that she had met him some time prior but could not divine when it was? With a sigh she paused to change to her bipedal form, as it was the one she most felt comfortable in.

She sat on the ground for the transformation, preferring the stability of her legs underneath her as they lengthened and thickened, her thighs and calves stretching to accommodate movement on two legs. Her back lengthened somewhat, small breasts sprouting on her chest, and she sat up, now crouching as opposed to sitting outright, one knee softly brushing the ground. Her shoulder joints changed, becoming less stiff to allow full arm movement. Then biceps and triceps formed, grew, and stretched. Her toes lengthened both front and hind, the claws of the latter gripping powerfully at the sand while the ones on her now-opposable fingers retracted, much as a cat's would. She enjoyed this aspect of her werewolf form, because it allowed such delicate tasks. Finally her tail and neck lengthened, her head thickening a smidgen, and her mane growing out to the point she could gather it into a messy ponytail. The woman stood, stretching her muscles out. Lupus form was so restrictive compared to this.

Slowly she advanced, till a brown hued man came into view. He was sitting on the shore, near to the point the cold water could touch his toes. He was in good condition, looked like he possessed great strength. The ebony woman came up behind him and then sat next to him, surreptitiously looking over at his face, which she found to be handsome. All the things she had been thinking about saying had fled her mind, and her tongue felt tied in knots. Finally she summoned up a polite, "Hello." before falling silent, trying again to frame how to ask him how they might know each other. But then, maybe he would recognize her anyway?
