Sophie felt her face warming up as she felt the older female's gaze settling on her, but she did her best to look as unaffected as possible, an attempt which was quite ruined by her unconscious showing of the desire to sink into Boothe's fur and disappear. When the golden wolf's gaze was drawn back to the male across from them, Sophie glanced up at her curiously, her ear swiveling uncertainly before she returned her attention to the cards. There didn't seem to be anything special about them, at least that she could tell; but Sophie had never seen cards before, of any kind, so perhaps she wasn't the best judge.
As the large female on the other side of Boothe selected her card, Sophie couldn't help but lean forward, her nose twitching curiously as she glanced between them. At the prompt, she toddled forward, her steps somewhat hesitant and insecure, and looked over the cards herself, glancing back shyly at the female hesitantly as though to make sure it was okay. Boothe did no such thing, bounding forward eagerly and nearly upsetting the cards as he tried to pick the best one, in the end going for one on the far left, slapping his paw down on it and wagging his tail eagerly. "Do that 'un!" He barked, and then plopped down, almost sitting on another card before he remembered what was going on and backed up to sit beside the stranger again.
Sophie hesitated another moment longer, and then carefully moved over, bending to pick up a card toward the bottom of the spread in her teeth. She padded over to Macarius, careful not to disturb the spread, and placed it gently on his knee, tucking her tail between her legs and pressing her ears back before scampering over to Boothe again, plopping down beside him and staring with wide eyes at the old man. She hoped it was okay to pick the card up; she just wanted to impress upon him the importance of that card. It was special.
At least, she hoped it was.
