The puppy immediately ran up to him, though she stopped inside the borders, and he took a couple steps back to ensure that no one came up and thought he was taking her. That was rather ruined as she assured him, or perhaps herself, that she couldn't be at the borders, because "Mahn" patrolled them, and he--or she--wasn't here. Drakien swiveled an ear and gave her a rather amused expression, thinking to himself that this "Mahn" was most likely on one of the other borders, or on their way here now. He would have to go before they got in trouble, or at least the puppy did. He said nothing to her statement, though, and merely shook his head with a bemused sort of grin.
She dashed back to where she'd been standing before for a moment, and then came back with a chewed-up stick. As she dropped it between them and told him what it was, he put a foot down somewhat closer and stretched his neck out, sniffing at the chew toy. It didn't look like a tree, actually, but of course he wasn't going to tell her that; he wasn't heartless. And anyway, he'd never had the sort of imagination that required that sort of art, so for all he knew, it was a tree. He stepped back again and nodded, his grin softening into a smile. "Yes, it is a tree, isn't it?" He agreed, and sat back, eyeing the small child curiously. He wondered if perhaps she could help him find another tree, but he doubted she knew the difference between them all just yet. He said instead, "You're very good at that!"
