All welcome! Please do not mind the ramble...or the little kiddies copying their big brother's potty mouth. xD :: Word Count → 606

"Hey, Boothe?"

The question was asked hesitantly, as brother and sister padded through the dense foliage, destination unknown but reveling in their journey.

"What'd'ya want?" Sophie's ears flattened back against her head, and she glanced shyly at her brother. They were wearing the pelts they'd gotten from X'yrin, Sophie's white rabbit pulled tightly around her small body and Boothe's black marten making him look large and strong. Well, more so than her. They were doing their best not to get the gifts dirty, and though that might seem to have been a fair bit harder than they imagined, Sophie was fairing rather well. Boothe...well, not so much.

"What...what d'you think Leon and Trig'll think of this...?" She asked, and hunched her head as green eyes turned to glare at her. "Who cares what they think?" Boothe demanded, and Sophie hunched her shoulders, bowing her head guiltily. Her brother snorted, and bumped her shoulder with his larger frame, sticking his head up. "I thought this was supposed to be just us, Sophie," He complained, and Sophie hunched lower, nodding guiltily. After a moment, though, he continued somewhat more hesitantly, "Don't think they'd be happy, though. 'S why we're doing it," He nodded firmly, and Sophie glanced at him, her ears lowered even tighter to her head. "...Yeah..." She looked away again, stepping lightly over a raised root.

They were heading into the forest for reasons that were, mostly, unknown even to them. Sophie had told Boothe of the things she'd learned about the world, though, with Mordecai and with others, and he'd been intrigued. He refused to go hunting for elves, though, so while Sophie was positive that was what they were doing, Boothe adamantly refused anything of the sort. Still, they paused to check out every little bundle of mushrooms, every hollow that looked like it might hold a tiny person, and every fallen tree. They found nothing, though, and Sophie wondered if it was Boothe who made the creatures of the forest hide from them, or if they'd simply grown too old.

She didn't like that last thought very much, though, and as she checked out another mushroom ring, she pushed it firmly out of her mind. There was nothing in this one either, no one hiding under the mushrooms or in the roots enclosing the small ring. With a little sigh, she turned back to Boothe, her ear flattening out. The feather Light had given her slipped out from beneath the pelt and hung beside her head, tied as it was just behind her ear. She stopped in a small patch of sunlight, and Boothe stepped a bit into the shadows before turning to look at her, head cocked.

"What if we don't find anything? Or we get lost?" She whined, and Boothe padded his way back over to her, his ears laid flat. "Sophie, I didn't want to tell you," He began, and shrugged his wide shoulders a bit in a sort of helpless manner, "But...we're sorta already lost."

Sophie took that moment to glance about the area, and noticed with some trepidation that they had, in fact, forgotten to leave a trail back the way they'd come. It was a bit harder to do without Bug, anyway, who dragged so heavily that there was a clear trail wherever he was. Sophie spun around in a slow circle, and then whimpered a little, and glanced back at her brother. What was it Leon had said just the other day...? It had been a cuss-word, like 'ass'...

Boothe thought of it first, and said, very precisely, "I think we're fucked."
