Kiara was more than confident that she had picked the right cup. The cups had been moved at a slow easy pace which she had no difficulty following. Her white fluffy tail wagged excitedly and she waited expectantly for the fiery gem to be revealed. The middle cup was lifted and it proved to be empty as did the right cup. Kiara puffed out her chest with pride. She knew she had picked the correct cup. When the left cup was lifted Kiara's face turned from confidence to shock. Sitting in the place where the gem should have been was a small doll with huge eyes. Her entire body went rigid in surprise and she sat with a gaping mouth.
Fleta's confusion only added to Kiara's own state of shock and she quickly looked from doll to coywolf. Her sapphire eyes were as wide as disks and her mouth moved silently up and down as if she were speaking. Laughter erupted from the audience as Fleta simply shrugged and pocketed the doll. The cups were righted and Fleta placed the red gem underneath one of the cups, and even double checked to make sure it wouldn't move. The offer to try again only increased Kiara's determination, and with a curt nod she stared so hard at the cup with the hidden gem that she could have bored a hole through it.
Again, the cups were shifted around at a slow and easy pace. The white wolf's concentration was enough to put a seasoned hunter to shame. Finally, the cups stopped moving and she was prompted to choose on. Kiara hesitated for a moment as her confidence wavered, but she finally picked the middle cup. She hoped and preyed that she had picked right.
