In Character

After her self-consciousness had worn off from her shifting, Ciara’s head tipped to the side in curiosity. She’d never heard of a ‘lean to’ as the male called it, and she followed him a little unsteadily on two legs, her tail sticking straight out to help a little with her balance. She was a beautiful Optime female, albeit a bit clumsy, but she wouldn’t have believed that if anyone told her. When they came to the lean-to finally, Ciara realized that it was basically a little den-like thing that the Omega had made for himself. She admired the ingenuity of it, thinking to herself that she would never have been that creative.

Her thoughts were interrupted when the male handed her a stick similar to the one he’d picked up a few moments before. Awkwardly, she took the stick in her humanoid hands and followed him over to the water’s edge. Her ears twitched to pick up the sound of his voice as he gave her instructions, and she nodded here and there, paying close attention. Ciara was a good pupil, diligent and a good listener. She also happened to be a fast learner as well.

“No questions,” she said, as she drew her arm back. Her eyes had watched the worm a little uneasily for a few moments before this action, and now she found herself very much wanting the worm to disappear. It’s wriggling made her uneasy, and so she cast the line out into the water just as Noah had instructed. She turned to him, grinning when it went into the center of the water hole, as though she’d done a good job.

It was an impatient few minutes as she waited for there to be a tug on her line. She took the time to gaze over Noah, noticing his various scars. She wondered a little on his life before New Dawn, and realized she knew very little about him. What struggles had he gone through before coming to this pack? What packs had he been a part of before? How did he lose his ear? All of these were on the tip of her tongue but she felt it impolite to ask him. Then, suddenly, there was a tug on her line that interrupted all of those thoughts.

Quickly, Ciara scampered to do as Noah had told her. She brought the pole towards the ground and pulled, fighting against the pressure on her line and trying to win. It felt as though she was playing tug of war, and soon after that thought passed her mind, she won! A decently sized fish came wriggling out of the water, attached to the hook on the end of her line and flopping around noisily. The calico yearling drew the fish a little further away, and looked up at Noah in excitement. While she didn’t know what to do now that she’d actually caught a fish, she was still very pleased that she’d caught one, and hoped he’d be too.
