The tiny thing couldn’t have been more oblivious to the ways of wolves nor the complicated implications of their relationships. She did however understand when she was near close to being crushed. She watched as the large male approached her haven and hurriedly wiggled herself free of the female wolf’s hold on her. Her small wings beat the air rapidly to get her at ascend to the branches overlooking the den and keep out of the larger creature’s way. Thankfully, the fledge was not alone in her escape and settled beside the larger speckled owl on a branch and simply kept out of the way and watched.

The anticipations X’yrin had had for seeing her mate again were lost to her when he drew nearer. She felt the fine hairs along the nape of her neck bristle with his increasing steps whilst her eyes followed his descent to all fours. Awkwardly formed, but humbling; the image made her smile at this and she felt her heart quicken when each breath she inhaled was that of his scent unmarred by malice and lavished in love. Her lush tail unfurled from beneath her and swayed happily as she welcomingly received his affections. His body came to better accommodate his present form giving her a comfortable means to embrace him as he drenched her face with his endearments, softly uttering his apology for her ears alone to receive. She couldn’t have been upset with him, she wanted him to know this. While she had acted rashly as she had done the time before, she knew it was never his intention to anger her, but express his fears in a way that kept him from being hurt.

By now she knew him intimately, the soft center that was his core encased in this formidable physique that the weak tended to fear. They would not see what she did, the soft and loving nature he shared only with her as well as the fragile spirit that dwelled within. He was strong and able, bearing his hardened garb to the world, but beneath it, he was as he was now; a caring soul vulnerable to grief and fears same as she. And she let him know that she accepted this, she accepted his fear of losing her, his want for her, and his love for her all in a seamless ballad or nurturing tones to fill his ears.

She fell back to her rear when his nose touched her own and she smiled as his muzzle fell into her neck. Her encircled arms fell away from him for just a moment as the muscle and bone beneath her radiant pelt began to contort to a more favorable dress. In the midst of his affections, she pushed up by her haunches, purposefully nudging back her mate from her face so she could better stand and stretch out the kinks of this larger quadruped before returning to lay in the snow. Effortlessly she rolled to her side with a forelimb extended the paw the air between them. A beckon of sorts, coupled with a needful whine for the loving caress she was but for a few moments void of.
