In Character

Ciara’s fur had been bristling just a little at the sight of the newcomer whom she didn’t recognize. Her earth-toned eyes watched both wolves, though they were marginally less wary when gazing upon her pack brother. When he told her to calm, and mentioned that the she-wolf came in peace, Ciara’s tail gave a twitch before turning into a slow wag. Her fur slickened down a little, and her overall posture became much more relaxed.

Taking a couple steps forward, the calico wolfess moved to bump her nose affectionately to Jiva’s shoulder. She rested close to him, meshing her fur with his before turning to look at the stranger. The woman had an air of superiority about her, and she could only assume that she was a leader. After some careful sniffing, the yearling realized that the she-wolf carried the lingering scent of the pack that had come to oversee Noah’s punishment, a day or so before Ciara arrived in New Dawn. Ichika-no Hoen, she thought to herself.

Then her gaze turned once again to the package. Jiva nosed through it first and he seemed to find one he liked. Once Jiva was finished Ciara licked at her own nose and pushed through the feathers until she found one she liked. Then, she stamped her nose to it much like a wolf stamps the earth during caching.

When she pulled her head back, the feather she’d chosen, a sleek ebony, perhaps a raven’s feather, was stuck to her nose. She lifted a paw and knocked it gently to her feet before staring down at it. The mottled yearling did appreciate the beauty of the feather, but she had no idea of its use. She merely knew that the stranger had wanted to give the colourful plumage as a gift to her pack, so Ciara would oblige with a nod of thanks.
