As much as Cerberus enjoyed the forest, it was nice to finally step out of it and into open territory. He could smell salt water somewhere nearby, confirming his suspicion that he was approaching the bay. With a belly full of various rodents and a nap looming in the crevices of his body, Cerberus staggered forward toward the familiar land he’d passed through when he first arrived in Nova Scotia. So many memories came flooding back then, along with a decent-sized handful of heartache. He missed his brother dearly, and even on occasion his parents. Though he would forever hold a grudge against them, he still wondered if leaving home was the best decision. He could be curled up in front of the fire right now, nibbling on REAL food and lazing the day away. But that was the easy life. That was the life void of true freedom and adventure.
A nagging pain welled up in Ceri’s side as a result of immediately trekking on after dinner, and he had to stop to rest for a moment to relieve himself of the nuisance. Settling down on the crunchy grass, Cerberus gazed up at the darkening sky and inhaled deeply. He’d liked it here best; he remembered the inward debate he’d struggled through when he passed the mountains, wondering if he should just stop and dig up a den right then and there. So it made him smile, in a way, to find himself back here again. Perhaps it was fate, or perhaps it was the result of finally giving in to his previously squelched temptation. Either way, he took this opportunity to kick back and spend as much time on the bay as possible.
