Word Count :: +3 sorry this took forever.

The bow was coming along nice, as well as the three others she’d been making for other people in the pack. Sure, they were amateur and still a bit dilapidated, but she was trying and was building off of the memory in her mind. There was nothing in her hands to physically copy, so things were moving along a bit shakily. Whenever the little woman got frustrated with the bows, she took her knife and began carving into long sticks to make arrows, cutting them thin and straight. IT actually didn’t take very long for her to have an armful of arrow sticks ready to be fitted with sharp points and feathers.

Duke was walking around in the clearing, nibbling on grass and dropping down to roll every now and then. The girl had taken all of the tack she’d brought off of him for the time being, allowing him to just run around and be comfortable. After a while longer of working, bringing her to about six hours straight of carving wood, she dropped everything and rubbed her face. A sadness swelled up in her chest and she sighed softly, Wayne was missed so much. She wanted him to be there, to show him the things that she’d been making and learning. Seeing the love and pride on his face whenever she did something that he approved of…she wanted it!

Little whimpers broke from her throat and she curled up, drawing the attention of her horse, who trotted over and dropped his nose to snuffle over her side gently. He could feel her sadness and despair, and wished that he had some way to make her feel better. Duke just let his nose rest on her side for a while, trying to comfort his girl with his presence, until they both heard the deep howl come from not too far away.

Dixie leapt up, watching Duke with wide eyes, as if she wasn’t sure if she’d heard it in the first place. The stallion whinnied and pranced in place, tossing his head around and bumping her with his hip. Jolted, the female hopped up onto his back and held on, gripping his mane as he took off through the trees in search of who they hoped was there. The soft sound of an answering whinny from Fern came from the dark forest, and Dixie’s heart soared. Wayne was back! Tossing her head back, she let out an excited yip and jumped from Duke to the ground as soon as he slowed to a walk.

Wayne! Where are you, damn it!? She continued to scamper around in the dark, having a hard time finding the man that she loved. Where the hell was he?
