Octavius handed the bag over to Aeron and waited for further instruction. He was so happy that Caprica was there, because her presence was comforting in this time of unknowns and fear. Also, he was learning new curse words from her, which almost had him giggling in spite of the possibility of a knife flying at his face. When the older woman asked for him to go make a fire, he nodded and took the flint before walking out of the cabin. Sadly, he really wasn’t sure HOW to make a fire, and sat there staring at the ground for a while before actually doing anything.
Walking through the shallow layer of snow, he went and grabbed two handfuls of leaves and sticks from under a bush. It was relatively dry, having been covered and protected from the snowmelt and flurries. Bringing them back a bit closer to the cabin, he kicked the snow away from a small area of ground and dropped the sticks and leaves into a pile. A rock was found and he began smacking it against the flint, hoping to make a spark of some sort. It took a few minutes before anything new or exciting happened, but he finally managed to get a few sparks to fall on the foliage. A few leaves lit up and then the whole pile burst into flames.
Yipping happily, the boy ran back to the trees and gathered another big armful of dead junk from the ground, making a few trips and piling it all up a few feet away from the fire. He then began to steadily feed pieces into the flames, sitting on the ground and soaking up the warmth coming from the foot high fire.
