Little boys don't stay little boys
#3
Although this was nothing but a joyous occasion, Caprica couldn't help but remember her own seven-month anniversary. Or rather, she couldn't remember it at all: and there was the sad fact, that she hadn't had the chance to celebrate with her family in this way. It drove it home to her even more how important it was to keep the ties of family and tradition alive. As Anathemans and therefore family in more ways than one, her brothers had to respect the coming-of-age time. But it was a privilege, really and she was sure they felt the same. She would have loved to mark such a momentous occasion with such a ceremonial event.

The suspense of waiting for the public ceremony would have gotten to her, except that she'd caught a wild pig only the day before, and Caprica occupied herself in making a barbecue-style meal to share at the feast. A part of her, the most mischievous part, knew that the scent would be extra tantalising to the hungry boys: but by the time they encountered it, their challenge would be almost over. She had faith that her brothers would come through the test of fasting, although that was certainly one part of the occasion she wasn't sorry to have missed out on. She grew quickly exhausted and bad-tempered without at least one good meal a day.

Eventually the sunset came, and she headed for the Maxia Negra, a basket of barbecued meat at her side. Her eyes were gladdened to see all three of her little brothers home safe. There would be no embarrassing failures today. Unless her cooking destroyed their willpower in the last few seconds, of course. Caprica had to try hard not to giggle at this thought, but she swallowed the impulse because her mother looked so solemn standing framed by bones and the laughter would have sounded terribly out of place. Instead she beamed at Severus, Judas - and Octavius' back, for he was in the process of putting something in Naniko's hand. Caprica gave both of the other two a friendly punch on the shoulder as she passed them, heading for the furs to add her contribution to the array of delicacies.
