She looked unpleased about the topic of the festival, and the male had to press his lips tightly together to keep from grinning like a buffoon at the thought of the poor merchants being harassed by the independent woman. He could only imagine what she would have done had the event not been as public as it sounded. He did wonder if he knew any of the traders, though, whether from Freetown or elsewhere; it seemed many had crossed over the Atlantic to this land of opportunity.
Blizzard blue eyes watched helplessly as she brought the bottle to her lips, drinking the wine then setting it easily within reach. A canine tooth pressed on his tongue until he was distracted by her words, and he smiled easily. “To friends,” he said, and lifted an imaginary wine glass.
Looking bitterly at the empty space in his hand, he frowned only momentarily then bestowed yet another flamboyant grin upon the lovely dog. “Do you want to hear a tale?” he asked, one arm making a grand sweeping gesture. “A mythical tale from the land of Greece, the tale of a god and love and fine spirits?” He simpered and pretended that the cat wasn’t snorting.
