Dhiate looked her in the eyes. They seemed to truly know what he was going through, but sympathy would get her no where with him. He didn't know her, he didn't trust her. He trusted Hadley for a few hours and then he had run. Who cares if she's nice, or sympathetic, or pitying? He didn't. He didn't care for much of anything anymore.
Dhiate slouched a bit and investigated the changes to his body when the female left. His toes had grown longer and flexible. Dhiate took a blade of grass between two of these fingers and then began to pull it apart bit by bit. For some strange reason he found this amazingly pleasing. It was inexplicably enjoyable to move these digits, to work with them. By the time the female returned, he had a small hill of shredded grass.
Dhiate looked up with a steely gaze. She had come back? Why? What was it with strangers in this place? They all felt like they had to help him in some way. She placed something on his shoulders, and he grasped it with his fingers. He ran his fingers across it, feeling its textures. A soft smile played on his lips. He looked at her again, and began to follow her instructions. Sure enough, within a few minutes, he began to calm down. A curious look formed on his delicate features. "Ho-how exactly did this happen? Why did it happen? I thought that the luperci were just a myth..."
