Adelle stood still, staring at the mouse that was across from her. It stood still, tiny nose quivering with fear. Adelle was a big puppy, and the mouse, even full grown, could easily fit under one of her paws with room to spare. It didn't dare move, not wanting to trigger Adelle's predatory instincts, and Adelle didn't move, not wanting to frighten off the first creature that she'd ever had the chance to hunt all by herself. The stalemate seemed like it would last forever, until the puppy's attention span broke and she lunged forward, barking with excitement.

Immediately the mouse skedaddled, zig zagging over the light cover of snow. It's tracks were easy for Adelle to follow, if the large trail she was leaving behind her was much easier for anyone who wished to find her. Darting expertly Adelle tried to catch the mouse, head barreling down and coming up with mouthfuls of snow for it's effort. At last the mouse escaped it's tormentor, diving into a small hole. Adelle stood outside it, barking and digging at the ground, trying to reach it.
