Dhiate's mind was not in the same place as his body, it was farther in the past. It traveled back a few months and relived the horror of fire. His body grew silent, simply staring into space as Amy held him. The sobs stopped and he simply trembled in her arms

Fire. Fire everywhere, golden and beautiful. Run. Escape it. The beauty was a mask for its deadly destruction. It caught on to a wolf's fur and began to feed on its flesh as it screamed for help that no one could give. Some stood frozen in fear, unable to move until it was already upon them. Run! Don't watch them run! He ran forward. Fire. He turned to the left. Fire. Right. Fire. There was no where to run, but he kept on anyway. It danced around tauntingly. Its smoke began to file into his lungs, pervading his throat and nose. His body wasn't burning from the fire, but from the smoke. It charred his lungs, his throat. His not yet fully grown body struggling to escape. Dhiate stopped in a hurry as a burning wolf flailed and screamed before him. Stunned at the sight, he could only watch as the fire devoured him. Him. The only one he had left. The only one. Only. Gone.

In his madness, he heard that one word and it pulled him back. Gone. That was right. They were all gone. "Gone. Gone, gone, gone." His voice was a soft whisper in the higher range as he spoke the names of those he knew, one he saw die. After each name, he said gone again. He clung to Amy in the water, still trembling. Finally he came to the name. His blue eyes opened wide. The last one. The one he'd refused to accept for so long. " Eisíontas... Gone." His voice cracked as he forced himself to say gone. He didn't want to let him go. His precious brother. His sobs started up again, worse than before.
