Thread title from a song by Stratovarius

Styx was taking a walk. Hel had left that morning on another of her excursions, and while Styx didn't mind watching the camp, he felt like doing a bit of exploring on his own. If nothing else, he might be able to find someone to trade a bit of work with. So he brought his backpack with him as he wandered down to the shoreline, following it northwards.

He wasn't going to go that far; he wanted to get back to their camp before nightfall. But he'd taken everything of value with him, and had hidden the rest up in a tree to keep other predators away from it. Watching the moving sea made his stomach protest, and he turned away from it, swallowing down a sudden surge of saliva. No, he didn't really like the ocean, not this soon after having had to endure a long travel across it.

He wanted to meet people; Hel might be a warrior, but he was a craftsman and trader -- even if his craft/trade was more a service than actual items -- and he needed other people for that.

Where was the nearest pack territory, he wondered. Perhaps if he went there, he'd get work? Or, of course, they might run him away for being a stranger. Despite what Iskata had said about how things were here, he couldn't help but fear that they'd all be savages. So perhaps it would be better to meet other wolves one-on-one outside of any pack territory? Grah, things like this had been a lot easier back in Europe.
