Isa sighed, and Adelle's face set into determination. That sigh meant no good. It meant that the wolf would be attempting to drag Adelle off to sleep. There was no way that was happening. Not even her grandpa had an easy time getting her to settle down and sleep when the time came, finding her playing escape artist and bouncing around. For a complete stranger to take on this challenge and win was next to impossible. Her ears flattened and she stared up.

The only part Adelle really understood of what was said was the words need and sleep. That didn't sound good. Adelle backed up, a howling whine slipping through her. No! Even if she hadn't understood the rest of what had been said, she had understood the important part. She would stand her ground in this battle and not give in. Steadily she stared up, pushing the sleepiness away. It made her feel a little grumpy to do this, but she wouldn't sleep.
