Now that she was free of her prisoner, Sage was able to move around again. It had been too long since she'd left the confines of the pack, and the open fields and forests below the mountain were calling to her. It was early morning when she'd left, after making sure all of the animals were fed and watered, and their pens clean enough. Lennon's back was more comfortably now than ever as she rode down the mountain, lighting up a fat, hand-rolled joint as she went. She had smoked less while she'd had watch of the captive, and the high felt splendid now.
A few hours of light travel found her in a familiar forest. The Dampwoods, she thought, skirting carefully around Inferni. Sage was still wary of Ezekiel, despite Max's friendly demeanor outside of the pack. Farther south she went, until she found another wood, a denser wood with thicker trees. She recognized these as maple, and as she moved Lennon through them, her nose noticed the sweet scent. Sap, she knew. Sage wondered if someone was taking advantage of the long-abandoned human tools. She'd tasted some of the sap before, but it wasn't all that good. She supposed there was a process to it, but it was nothing that she knew.
Other scents hit her nose as she traveled, and it wasn't long before a silver-grey shape could be seen in the distance, half-hidden by the brush. She thought she recognized part of that scent, but she couldn't place it. Curious, the tawny coyote approached, lighting another joint and blowing smoke from her lungs as she went. The wolf became visible soon, and Sage called out gently through a cupped hand. "Hello over there!" She moved closer, and swung down from Lennon's back, for courteous greeting. "Sapping the trees, are you?" she asked the pretty grey, smiling meekly as she took another long drag. The weed had done well to calm her nerves, and she felt almost stable enough to have a good chat. Maybe the grey woman would abide.
