Life as an Omega proved to be easy enough for Cerberus. For the most part, it consisted of him staying out of the way of others, keeping close to the center of the pack lands, and snatching up a meal or two when his mangled leg would permit it. And he was okay with this, because he preferred the rest while healing from his run-in with the bear. However, while his body was healing quickly, his heart was taking its time to mend. He wasn’t sure if he would ever really be able to forget what had happened in the forest with Blind, but he tried to find solace in the fact that she might be frolicking in the heavens with Geoff right now instead of limping along in silence here on Earth. That was the only thought that seemed to keep his head above the proverbial waters of despair.

That afternoon, Cerberus found himself lounging a few yards away from the dens as he usually did. He wasn’t entirely sure how to act around others, being the lowest ranking wolf in the pack. It seemed awfully tiring – and somewhat foolish – to crumple into a bow of submission every time another wolf passed him, so he made a point of staying away from others for the most part. Fortunately for him, this also proved to be a good method for avoiding the explanation of his disappearance and Blind’s untimely death, which is exactly what he wanted. So in a way, yes, being an Omega was wonderful. He could deal with his need for attention later.

Basking in the sun, Ceri’s eyelids lulled halfway shut as the herbs he’d dug up for his pain began to take their toll on him. It was these moments that he truly counted on to keep him from curling up in a ball and whimpering like a pup. He hated pain, and any excuse to drive it away was wonderful to him. So as he reveled in the way the sun warmed his fur and soothed the stinging in his wounds, his mind finally wandered to more pleasant places instead of those surfaced by the annoyance of physical weakness. For the first time in almost a month he could say he was truly happy again, succumbed to the numbness of forgetfulness.
