The stillness of the den was what woke her this early morning. When the days filled with rambunctious motion had become the norm, resting upon furs in a home filled with motionless bodies was almost unsettling. Slowly the beastlike form of the she-wolf rose, uncoiling from her protective embrace around the trio of pups in the couple’s care. Quickly their den had turned from a lover’s escape to a pup’s haven and she offered no complaint along the way of this transition. Each time she recalled this, she smiled and envisioned the large home overflowing with pups made of hers and Saluce’s love. It would be a like a dream… one she could never regret.

Despite her mountainous size, her movements were silent and fluid as she parted through the nest of bodies toward the open mouth of the den. Feathers thrown every which way fell underpaw as she walked, some falling from her wild mane as her body rippled with each powerful, quiet step. And one such feather fell upon the nose of the sleeping tyke, immediately stirring him from his peaceful sleep. Her steps were halted near the entrance when the soft cry of attention went out, immediately turning the she-wolf’s head to the expecting twinkling eyes of the pup. Sharply, she clicked her teeth together commanding silence out of the pup before he disturbed the others then ushered him forward with a beckoning sweep of her tail. ‘Come’, the tone of her posture called out to the child. Happily he bound forward nearly tripping over himself in the process and came to stand beneath the woman’s shadow looking to her for guidance.

Then quietly, the two stuck out into the still morning, greeting the two avian watchers above the den with grateful nods as they passed by. The woman’s restlessness compelled her to walk the familiar grounds of the Valley without the purpose of marking the borders. They would be taken care of throughout the day… and this morning would be hers to share with the little one. And such a beautiful pre-dawn it was with the lingering hues of velvet night riding the vivid bands of azure and orange as the still hidden sun began its ascent. One could get lost in such beauty… the reverence, immeasurable. And as peace became her, her senses awakened further and stretched beyond herself and the boy to touch the furthest reaches with these blessings of the ancestors.

An ear twitched left to a muffled sound disturbing the quiet while the familiar scent of a friend caught her nose. Ah Kiara… the kind light that shown endlessly within Ichika’s embrace. Why the expecting mother would be out at this time, she did not know, but did not feel comfortable leaving her curiosity to fend for itself. Was she alright, the woman thought as she walked swiftly the short distance to her neighbor’s abode with little Salvador in tow by her train of auburn tresses. She approached the den with caution, taking care to sniff the exterior before playing the invasive Alpha exercising her protective nature. “Kiara?” she whispered into the darkness with ears straining forward. “Kiara are you alright?”
