When there was no voice to greet her, the she-wolf worried that something harmful had befallen the female and such worry compelled her nose further into the den to inquire, forsaking the threshold of privacy to see what had become of her friend.

But the stench of something wet and familiar stilled the female with only quivering calloused flesh intruding inquisitively. The scent of blood… of life, the same scent that had once filled her den at the birth of Nayru’s pup. And now it marked the interior of Kiara’s. Another inquisitive snout protruded into the den until the curious boy was roughly caught by the scruff of his neck and urged away from the mature scene. There were wails within the den that pulled both their ears forward and signaled the first life brought into this world. Though she could not see, she was none the less aware the pup was alive and well and it was a cause for joy.

Carrying Salvador in her jaws she quickly left the scene and hurried back to her own abode, whimpering and whining for her mate’s attention. “Saluce!” She called around the scruff of fur in her firmly clasped jaws. Reaching the entrance, she placed the pup down and nudged him into its warmth and safety. “Saluce, wake up!” the autumn woman called again, no doubt waking the pups with her exuberant boasts. She was a mess of excitement bounding in place, beating her heavy paws on the ground in a waking rhythm. “Kiara had a pup! Kiara is having her pups!!! Wake up, NOW!” And as she said that, X’yrin dove back into the darkness of the den and made a line towards the back into a small crevice carved into the wall. Piles of dried meat had been stored there, mainly for Sophie and Boothe than themselves, but at this moment, the cache became a precious offering to the mother in labor. Food was always a favored gift and now with life to feed, she would need it.

Gathering mouthfuls of meat so large it about tore her jaws apart, she ran back out of the den and toward the birthing site.
