Ezequiel can has hunting buddy :3? /+420

Most people might would say that climbing through the trees would be a very stupid, and ineffective, way for a canine to hunt. And in the majority of situations, even when dealing with a canine in possession of climbing skills as refined as Ezequiel's, they would be right.

Climbing was a very good way to escape trouble, making it harder for the pursuer to see Ezequiel, allowing him to take alternate paths and disrupting that all important scent trail that a chaser would rely on. However when it came to hunting, or move specifically chasing something, it fell somewhat short.

Still there were a variety of ways that the ability to quickly and quietly climb a tree could be helpful to a hunter if they used certain key concepts. Chief among those was the simple phrase: Nobody ever looks up.

Ezequiel had been tracking this small herd of deer along the Salsolan border for nearly four hours now and finally found himself in a position to strike. Positioned in a tree branch directly above the deer there was little chance of one of the grazing herbivores looking up at a steep enough angle to see him and a good wind kept his scent from alerting his prey.

The staff on Ezequiel's back could also function as a throwing spear, downing one if the hybrid aimed well, and Ezequiel should be able to drop down and kill another with his knives. Despite this he still hesitated; while normally 2 deer would be an extremely good week's worth of hunting there were not 2 deer stood below him but 6, 5 does and one large stag.

The stag was a point of concern. Built well and equipped with a many pronged set of antlers the stag was a potential threat to a canine as small as Ezequiel. Waiting for another pack member to hopefully stumble upon the situation would likely provide more kills and decrease the chance of Ezequiel becoming a rather fancy decoration on the stag's horns.

Thankfully it would be easy for an approaching pack member to notice Ezequiel. The tree he was perched in was rather bare and froma distance he was easily visible as a black dot against the pale wood; it was only up close that the aforementioned rule about looking up came into effect and he was able to conceal himself. With little else to do Ezequiel simply remained still, eyes fixed on the deer as he tried to keep as still as possible while he waited.
