Sirius by Nat

The morning broke with serendipitous splendor over lands of thistle and thorn. He rose with the dawn, as was the way of the Hunter. Old aches and bruises were almost fully healed, but for the scar on his arm, which was still pink and angry. The King stretched, the mountain of soft pelts which made up his bedfurs rustling softly beneath his weight. A scent brought the man to sharp awareness, suddenly; His venomous eyes leapt to a dark form in the corner, huddled on the small doe-pelt he had given her to sleep on. A silent, reluctant sigh pulled from the man's maw - He had forgotten about the girl Pandemic had given to him. She was his slave, now, and that was something the King would have to get used for, for apart from various lovers, Sirius was in the habit of waking up alone.

He rose silently, and stalked from the room, not of a mind to deal with the fragile-looking woman. Perhaps he would just give her to Eris, and have Molca take her under-wing... A bullish snort was given to the open air outside his chamber. No, she had been a gift - It would be an insult to Pandemic to brush her off so lightly.

The morning air caressed his lean frame, and it took a moment for Sirius to note the difference. When normally his lungs would sting with the brittle crispness of a winter sunrise, this morning was lucid and surprisingly warm. A gentle breeze tangled seductive fingers through his dark locks, and the wicked monarch allowed himself a surprised smile as he stretched in the mild warmth of the rising sun. A few paces took him to a crumbling stone wall, which the man vaulted with fluid ease, his lean muscles iron-formed and athletic. He was headed towards the barn, hoping to check on Luna and her colt before the rest of the pack rose; But he had barely taken two steps in that direction before he paused once more. Large coyote ears lifted from a dark, silky crown of tumbling raven-wing waves, and acidic eyes glittered with strange pleasure at the sound that swelled into his waiting auricles.

Without missing a beat, the man's direction changed, headed now for the source of the lovely music. His step was light and silent, the easy lope of a hunter as it circled in on its prey. Finally, the music-maker revealed himself, and the King again had to pause as a lightning bolt of lust and longing sizzled deep within his gut. Pupils narrowed, the mass of poisonous olive stretching around them as the dark slits followed the progress of the girl, who seemed thus far unaware of his presence. His muscles pushed into movement of their own accord, and for some paces he stalked her, unseen. Clover was a dutiful creature - She had tended his belongings with a care and caution best suited to the personal artifacts of royalty, and he was, as he had been since finding her, rather thrilled by her presence. This morning, the warm sunlight gilded her curls and turned them to sheer gold, bouncing slightly with each step she took. The warble that came from her maw was sweet, enchanting to the shadowy monster.

He waited until the melody had come to pass, interrupting her tune with great reluctance. "It has been a long time since I heard you sing," Came the swell of his dark voice, and the man emerged from behind a crumbling stone wall, stepping into her path.
