“No,” Ezekiel growled, his voice rising sharply. There was a savage gleam in his eyes and the fur along his spine bristled—but under the wolverine, none would be quick to see it. The tension of his body was fast to rise though, asserting his will as a leader needed to do. He knew that this fervent desire would come, and he would see it again before the truth of the matter was revealed, but to expect him to allow his own men to walk into death was another thing.
The Aquila kept his eyes on Helotes, but acknowledged Vesper by brushing against her as he passed. He was shorter than the Hydra and it was apparent, with them next to one another. Despite this the coyote’s scarred face was fierce and his posture strong. No part of him was cut from soft threads, as these had all been burnt away by betrayal and the wounds suffered by his own hubris. “No one is to go looking for them; neither my warriors or your scouts,” he added, and finally looked to Vesper. “They are not alone and we have no way to know how many there are. They might have numbers greater than ours; they might have allies.” This was what truly worried him. The attack had come from the east, and two packs lay in that direction. He doubted Casa’s involvement, but Anathema was another story entirely.
