Bzzt! Something zipped through the air at high velocity and then thunked loudly as it lodged into the thick bark crust of an old oak tree, several feet up from the ground. Another airy whistle sounded as a second wooden, feathered shaft zipped by but this time disappeared into the forest. A moment later something screamed, but the sound was certainly not lupine. By the pitch it could have been some sort of goat, or some great and furry, clawed beast, who knows.
Crunch crunch! The foliage rustled far off, in the direction the arrows had come from. The great clamor grew louder and louder until finally from around a tree the white woman appeared, jogging on two legs through the brush and trees. Clad in the leather armor crafted for her by her friend Mars, her petite fingers clutched tightly around the hunters bow given to her by the blind woman Hotaru, she ran, not seeing the puppy crouched there at the borders. She ran toward the sound of the scream, even though the bawling had already died out moments before she appeared. She was coming toward Dalinga fast, but her eyes saw the arrow in the tree, not the puppy on the ground, and her senses tested the atmosphere to find where the yowling creature had gone.
She was on the chase, on the hunt, and her prey was wounded. Now the trick was to find it before some other predator came along and took it for an easy meal of their own.
