Love is a heart shaped necklace

When had been the exact moment this awkward boy had changed in a key way and developed into a man. Maybe it was the same moment he had witnessed another of his gender committing an atrocity too disgusting for words. Or maybe it had been the feeling of life draining away from the same vile male, the realisation that he had taken a life and destroyed it, sent it into the abyss. Or maybe it had been the same moment that he had set his eyes upon the lovely creature he cuddled close to himself. It could have been any of those, he wasn't sure which was more affecting, more life changing and yet despite everything, if he faced the choices he had made again and be given a chance to change something, he would change nothing and let what had happened happen again. The only part he would change if he could, the need for Juliet to suffer. He would give up anything to change that, his life, his soul, even her, if it meant she got to live in a world without pain or fear, without knowing just how cruel that particular experience was.

As has been the norm whenever he had touched her, she tensed, her body responding automatically. And he hated that, hated that her innocence had been stolen from her before she had been ready and willing to give it. He hated that she had been stripped of the choice, the chance to choose, and maybe she would have chosen him. But this time was different, instead of pulling away or laying there tense with fear she relaxed against him. He remained still as she did so, a wrong movement, or an out of place twitch could send her scurrying away from him, reeling with a flashback. He despised seeing that pain in her expressive eyes and knowing that he was the cause of it. Her question was unexpected and he blinked for a second before responding,

"Ahyntheeng." He had known for a long time that his feelings for her were separate from that of his family, different and somehow stronger, it bound him tighter than if he were wrapped in chains, and he found that he liked their bruising feel on his emotions, he felt less likely to drift away from her.
