At last, the nightmare was finished. With a final goodbye and words that made Kiara's blood freeze, the luperci left the injured wolf to her own devices. Terrified sapphire eyes watched Amy swish her tail as she left. Kiara didn't dare move, she simply sat in a curled ball and let her blood coagulate in the wound. The land beneath her was stained with her blood again, but she paid little attention to it. Horror filled the white wolf's mind as reality tried it's best to sink in. Amy had infected her, she wouldn't ever be the same again. The idea repulsed Kiara and she grew afraid of her own body. There were times when the arctic wolf had been envious of the luperci, but she had never dreamed of becoming one herself. Kiara felt like everything had been taken from her, like her life had ended. She was no longer herself.

It took her almost an hour to finally move, to let her sore limbs and injured body untangle itself. Something called to the female, an instinct that drove her to move and continue living. With a heavy heart, the young mother limped back to her den. From inside the soft cries of her puppies called to her. Even if she was no longer herself, they still needed her. She was still their mother and their only parent. Finally, Kiara addressed her injury. It was ugly and had stained her brilliant coat red. Carefully she cleaned the wound, her body wincing as her tongue worked to removed the stain. Once clean, Kiara entered her den and sought refuge with her infant puppies.
