wave goodbye to what you were

Building the base on the ground seemed like a suitable comprise, although she still had some doubts. When the higher-ranked coyote started giving orders, she decided it wasn't worth arguing and that they might as well see how it went. Alma herself didn't know how to build the thing in the first place, and it seemed no one else did either - they were liable to make a few mistakes.

The rust coyote knelt down and started arranging the wood into what she thought was a suitable base, and was stopped by the darker woman, Chryses, "You are doing it wrong." She scowled, "That doesn't give it enough support."

Seeing how irritable the woman was, Alma decided it was better to let her do it rather than argue. She moved out of the way and gestured to the wood, silently daring her to do a better job.

The woman took her bet. She arranged four pieces of wood into the shape of a square. Each piece lied on its thinner side, which caused Alma to raise an eyebrow. Nonetheless, she did not interrupt. A third plank was placed in the middle of the square, on its side like all the others. Then, she began to add the planks with the wide side up. "This is how it should be done." The dark woman said when she was finished.

Alma had to admit - silently, of course - that it didn't turn out as bad as she thought it would. She glanced at the rest of her clanmates to see what they thought, and wondered if there was some way of testing the structure without causing it to fall down - it wasn't held together by nails or glue, yet.
