The dame hadn't slumbered in days, the idea of sleep having become an unappealing thought. She spent as much time away from the king's chamber as she found possible, not that it was all that difficult, seeing as how his distaste for the mottled-pelted slave was so apparent it was nearly tangible. The typical optimistic demeanor was crumpled and discarded. As if it wasn't bad enough, it seemed as though her dear bird didn't like to spend time around Salsola territory either.
Wander had perched herself on a rock within the ruins, heart sinking to a new low as she pensively mulled over her place in this fresh hell. As much as she had wanted to, both the doe's fight and flight were absent. Silently, she hugged her knees to her chest, head hanging low. Everyone must've hated her. She was nothing.
She was nothing. Nothing more than the dirt under foot, nothing more than a speck of dust on the breeze. And even more so, Wander knew she didn't belong. Here, no one engaged in friendly conversation, no one asked her about anything, no one gave her so much as a passing glance, as far as she was concerned. Thoughts strayed to friends she had met before, and she felt warmth trickle down one of her ivory cheeks, a nimble hand carefully brushing the tear away from her milky eyes.
That slim chest heaved out a sigh.
The idea of making everything perfect,
appealing, so much trouble, never worth it,
The idea of making everything right,
keeps me up thinking late at night.
A cracked window distorts the image,
but no worse than it was when it was fogged.
A simple change is all it takes,
to see things a little differently after all, came the soft warble of song as Wander waited, though for what, she didn't know. Perhaps for Gamble, perhaps Cerberus, or any of her friends that she had met on her travels, but even then, she knew they wouldn't come.
