then the time of trouble commences

From their scent alone, he knew of their purpose. Sirius had been frugal with his words and more generous with his teeth, but what was coming was inevitable. Kingdoms did not last forever. While they fought to hold on they made bedmates with those who might do them harm—thistle and flame were not allies in truth, and the volatile and personal relationship between their Lords spoke of such a thing all too clearly.

Flanked by a warrior and two women, Ezekiel was glad for the show of numbers. The massive black she-wolf towered over all of them, and he was hardly surprised they had sent her. She looked a fright, after all. He did not know the dog, but he certainly knew Halo’s son—not personally, of course, but for what he was. A blood traitor, left to rot in a prison made of Sirius’ home. It was not his place to punish the boy for what he had done. Halo had two children who, soon enough, would be capable of the task.

“I am aware,” Ezekiel answered her, his voice strong and clear. “That Salsola has become involved in this. I think it fair we speak of this openly. These wolves call themselves Boreas. They are here to destroy what they consider to be filth; coyotes, and those who would follow them.” He fell silent, eyes drifting between the assembled. No one would wish to admit any true loss, but there were battles to be spoken of and the singular understanding to build. Where were these enemies, and how would they be destroyed?
