Approaching The Border
#1
Exiled. Isolated. Alone.

Malakai has been banished from his Pack, from his family, from the land in which he was born and raised, but it had been by his own hand. Jealousy for his brother, his twin Rafael had grown from a splinter in his paw to a stake through his heart and it had torn him apart from within. Always the golden pup, Rafael needed to do nothing except exist to draw his parents love and attention. Malakai, on the other hand, had done everything expected of him, and still his parents barely threw him a second glance. Anger had flared within him, and finally, Kai had decided to finally show his parents how weak his brother truly was.

An attack in the night was all it took. Brother had attacked Brother, Rafael's whines could have been heard miles away, and Kai had sealed his own fate. The Alpha, his father, had immediatly chased him off the Pack lands, telling him he no longer deserved the right to wear the family name, telling him they had no sons now.

Malakai had told himself that that was fine by him. If they didn't realize the truth of it, that Kai had simply been stronger, faster, smarter than his brother, then they were the ones who didn't deserve him. He would be fine on his own, with his claws and fangs and wits.

But it didn't take long for Kai to realize the error of his ways. He had been raised by a Pack, loyal to each other, offering support and comfort and help. He had refused to acknowledge that he needed those things, but in the wilderness on his own, he knew that he did. Bringing down a large stag had not gone entirely to plan, the animal's large antlers catching his right rear flank as his sharp teeth had brought the beast to it's end, and with his fur torn open in a painful open wound, Kai had had little choice but to ask for help. He was not far from the borders of a nearby pack, and managing to drag the animal carcass towards the border itself, Malakai hesitated for just a moment before he howled for attention. He hoped someone would come, perhaps offering the help of medicine or merely shelter until the wound was healed and he could be on his way. The body of the animal lay still warm next to him, something of an offering, a payment for any help this pack might offer.
