His heart felt as though it might burst with its unending sprint. He couldn’t calm it down and it was beginning to affect his steady breath, making his chest rise and fall more often as his lungs struggled to cope. The energy it gave him ran rampant and noticeable in his strong limbs as he pulled her as absolutely close as he could. He met her tongue passionately with his but couldn’t possibly get enough. He needed to have more of her. Every instinct demanded it as the only way to finalize the bond this wonderful woman wanted to share with him. His intentions were evident with their passionate embrace but even more so when his one of the clawed hands fell to her lower back and pressed her closer.

And he might have continued on like this had his own sensible mind not pushed through. It started as a simple thought, a connection with other moments of passion like this. That simple thought strung together others from his past and of the woman he first loved. This unwanted bridge built until he mashed painfully in to cold memory of her demise. It was enough to stop his body’s yearning. His kiss was still sweet and somewhat passionate, but he stopped pressing himself to her so fiercely. The fiery desire in him hissed as it was doused down to barely glowing embers. There was so much painful similarity between how he felt for X’yrin. The obsidian man had been romantically active with another since then, but it had been only passion, hormones, and an oddly formed trust between the two wolves. Thana didn’t hold a place in his heart as wonderfully, deeply branded as this autumn wolf had. Maybe it was that fact which had allowed him to get so physically close to her. But the more he thought about loving this woman in his arms as he so desperately wanted to, the more he felt he was condemning her to live by him and all the dangers that seemed to come with that dedication. He couldn’t lose her like he had lost before. It would destroy everything he was and there was absolutely no doubt about that. And this had him suddenly doubting his own resolve to become a leader; was he strong enough to protect her from what might come with time? Or with the enemies he already had and the others he would undoubtedly make in the future. If not, how could he esteem to do the same for an entire pack?

It wasn’t something he could just try and hope for. His tail had stopped its lashing, his breath had steadied, and his kiss was no longer powered by his own desire but was instead led by the wishes of his companions lavishing tongue. His passion and love needed encouragement that he couldn’t ask for.
