The Dreamers had been gone for a couple of weeks now, but still the silver Marino clung to the pack's former territory, breathing in deeply to smell the fading scents of those she once called family. Her mother and father had gone, taking most of her siblings with them. Only Silvano remained now on this side of the sea, but he and his mate had gone, moving in with the allies of the now-disbanded pack. Only Artemis remained now, still living in her room on the first floor of the mansion. It was all she knew, and it was all she wanted.
She did not know where everyone else had gone. Some had become loners, and some must have joined other packs, like her brother had. All had moved on, except for her. Artemis clung to her former routine. Sleeping in her room at night, spending her days by the lake... These were things she had always done and she did now, but the actions were languid, touched by a heavy-settling depression. Unlike the rest of the Dreamers, she was unwilling to move on.
Rain fell today in large droplets, but the silver girl remained on the terrace of her room, fur sticking together in large, wet clumps. She only wanted her family to come back, to bring the rest of the Dreamers with her, and tell her it had been some elaborate, awful prank. She would be mad, but it would not last long; it was all she wanted now.
She lifted her head, a mournful song echoing over the lands she had been born in, the lands she had never expected to change like this.
