Denver was always happy to watch the woman in his life go about her morning, but once she was finished came the part he dreaded: the horse ride. He knew it was faster, more efficient, blah, blah, blah. Even Jasper still made him nervous after all this time, though the horse had been nothing but sweet to him. It was their muscles, their long, sharp legs ending in hard, strong hooves. He didn't trust the things, and their rides always made his heart race. He gave her a half-hearted reply smile, and took a long moment to follow her outside.
After all of the business of getting on the horse, and the constant fear of falling off, it might have been pleasant, sometimes. He clung to Maggie's comfortable shape as they rode for far too long, his grip occasionally tightening desperately out of fear. The wind in his hair was nice, but the tangled mess that was his hair when they arrived was not. As they slowed, he soon realized that his stomach was not happy about the trip either. He grumbled, but tried his best not to complain; after all, it wasn't him with babies in his belly.
The Confidant clambered off of that horse as soon as he could and stepped away, sweeping his palms over his clothing. His legs were covered with the beast's hair. Damn animal. He sighed, giving up on that effort; the hairs were tiny, and everywhere. Pale blues turned to his mohawked love, offering a strained smile. Where d'ya think we should start? he wondered to Maggie while he glanced about, still unable to recognize the shops in Halifax. They all looked so similar now; cracked, faded, and crumbling. Denver was certain that there would be at least some places that still hid treasures for the little ones-- and their parents.
