Conri moved slow, dragging his knees over the ground beneath the hot sun. His head was held low, eyes shut tightly as he went along, dragging and crawling until the point that his head crashed into the ground, resting a small distance from his knees. Glassy jade eyes stared out across the foreign lands, staring at nothing and everything all at once. The laughter in his head was overwhelming, screaming in his ears and taunting him, and he just wanted it to all go away. Finally, bracing his arm against the ground, the hybrid brought himself to sit up on his knees. Fingers traced over the ground, sweeping across it until his hand came across an object. It was hard and thick, fitting just perfectly in his hand. Fingers curled around it slowly, finally bring it up and toward his face, staring at it a moment. A rock, or a piece of one, with slightly jagged edges. Life came back to his eyes then, erupting into a sudden laugh that was somehow tangled with a faint sob. Conri brought the edge of the rock to his head, just in front of his right ear, pressing it there and twisting, insistent on digging the laughing voice out. |
