Talk! Think! Walk!

Word Count:350

After several weeks of care and intensive watch on Fawkes's part, it was Hotaru's turn to take on the majority of responsibility for the tiny white falcon. Kelia had been out of the egg for over a week and had been growing steadily since. She demanded food almost constantly and thus made Hotaru's job a lot harder. Fawkes, who had cared for the egg for nearly a month, had been rewarded with a tiny follower. The white falcon chick practically worshiped her older hawk companion and had started out actually disliking Hotaru. The chick's attitude had slowly changed as Hotaru was its main meal provider. However, the reward was less than thrilling for the blind wolf and she had resigned herself to the possibility that she would never share a deep connection with Kelia like she did with Fawkes.

The blind female had just returned from yet another hunt. In one hand she held a dead rabbit, in the other she held her walking stick and waved it in front of her in her usual fashion. Hotaru moved at a leisurely pace, she was in no rush to return home. The peaceful atmosphere and warm air made her feel lethargic. She had a great desire to simply lie down in the shade and take a wonderful nap. She even had a desire to read, despite the fact that the task was impossible. Sensitive ears twitched as the sound of her staff changed into the distinct ring of concrete. She had entered the outskirts of Thornburry and the desire for a nap intensified.

Hotaru paused and raised her muzzled slightly. The soft wind carried Dalgina's scent towards the blind female. She though about it, and decided that it would be a perfect opportunity for the puppy to learn a few things about raising a bird. With her mind sent, she followed the scent until it grew stronger and the sound of soft footsteps could be heard. "Dalgina!" Hotaru's cry was relaxed, and contained no hint of necessity. It was a friendly call to the youngster whom she had come to know.
