is Augustus mad?
Tharin didn't see any openings. He was as hard to attack as a full grown buck. Vigilance couldn't last forever though. Even the strongest opponent would have a chink in their armor somewhere. Tharin was full of vulnerabilities, new to this as he was. He did his best to cover them, but they were there. Instinct guided his movement as he turned with Augustus, keeping the giant male from being able to attack Tharin from behind.
The pair circled each other, lips drawing back into twin snarls. Augustus was more fierce, more experienced. At the challenge his instincts roared into play. Tharin only submitted to the alpha. True, he actually submitted to more than that, aware of those above him. His dominant spirit was willing to fight for rank though, and Tharin was prepared to push against Augustus. His own form swelled up, a deep rumbling growl escaping as he took a step forward, head to head with the larger wolf.
