A single calling sound

Omg Anu you sly fox you
Anu sounded surprised at Tayui’s great reveal, so Tayui just shrugged impishly. Of course that was what they said; birds, like wolves, had to communicate in some manner. Their sing-song speech was just how they did it. She figured that they must sound pretty weird to the birds, what with their constant yipping, barking, and other various vocal intonations. Even though she agreed that their songs were quite beautiful – she indicated this with a smile and a nod of her head – she figured that some were just blessed with beautiful voices. It was a gift and they were lucky that they could sound so wonderful all the time.

Anu’s thoughts seemed to turn to history now, but Tayui didn’t have much else to say on the subject. She knew of Dahlia, their former leader Haku, and his son Conor. There was much she knew, but little she wished to speak of. Both were dead, but she only mourned the passing of one. Dahlia had been a nice place once—she would have even considered sending her son to live there to grow up, but he’d done fine in AniWaya.

She glanced down to see Anu’s hand reach for her own. She glanced from her hand up to Anu’s face as the other wolf turned to move away. Tayui felt her heart skip a beat and in a split decision, she turned her hand over to grasp at Anu’s hand more firmly. She fell into step with the other wolf, quietly, as she did now.

“It is,” she agreed. “Not despite of it—because of it. They’re saying all sorts of other things, too, I’m sure—not just worms: there’s probably one remarking on how pretty we are,” she noted, grinning.
