Testimony of Strength [M]

She hadn't gone far. Dalgina was looking for a quiet place to work on a carving she had started. Tail wagging she looked happily at the new bangles she had found. It was in an old corner in the pack, a place where no other canine smells had passed. A beautiful large golden necklace with a giant red gem laid around her neck, as well as her pendant and the one from Aylu. Adding to the glitter was an array of mismatched bracelets. Green, and blue, and silver and gold all laid up one arm, clinking against one another. Tehu rested on her shoulder, wings occasionally fluttering out, wanting to try to fly. She had brought a small bit of meat for that very purpose.

A racket broke out nearby, startling the young kestrel. Wings fluttering he took off, hovering through the air before landing in a low bush. Dalgina rushed over, picking him up. She tried to calm him with low speech, but the words were broken, unable to communicate when her body so clearly screamed alarm as well. Cautiously Dalgina continued, only to find a horrific sight. Blood splayed across the ground. Two deer dead. That wasn't a problem, as Dalgina was a huntress, but only one wolf stood there. This was pointless killing, purely for the blood. Blood covered the wolf in the center, and her mind whirled. It was a blood monster! Dalgina hadn't thought of them for a while, but the fear from her youth returned, remembering Mahn returning injured, the sorrow and anger of the pack before they had to leave.

Dalgina had never fully understood the leaving, her mind now connecting it with the injury and the despair she remembered being there. Trembling the young female backed up. Finding himself as the calmer one Tehu puffed up, calling out a challenge to the feeding wolf. He wasn't afraid now that he saw the source, but Dalgina was, and he would protect his dear friend.
